View Full Version : AAC files on Itunes
Do any of the Cowen players play AAC files? I have a g2 I like, and was thinking of getting a D2, and was wondering if it would play AAC files since Itunes will start selling some unprotected high bandwidth files from EMI pretty soon.
AAC is passe. The freeware codecs: Vorbis, Musepack, and FLAC are the future.

But if you really want AAC then an X5 or M5 will play AAC files IFF you run the Rockbox firmware (which likely invalidates your warranty, at last in some parts of the world &/or for some classes of problem with the device).
It'll also play gapless, FLAC, and various other things which iAudio haven't achieved yet.
The newer players are coming with FLAC support.

I'd converted to ogg 4. The converted files have the same quality and size. I do not think you loose anything. Of course you can go higher like q 6 but it will increase the size of the file like 30%.
I run linux and gnormalize (http://gnormalize.sourceforge.net/) a graphic front end and dir3ogg (http://jak-linux.org/projects/dir2ogg/) a CLI are very fast and easy programs to do the batch conversion. Last nite before I went to bed I started the conversion of 3450 m4a files. This morning everything was done.

The a3 plays them without a problem. The q5w you need coreplayer to play them. I went from a q5w to an a3 and I could not be any happier, I even added bluetooth to the a3, so for me it is now perfect.
