The X5 is basically an external hard drive to your PC. That is the way it was designed to work. You will find life much easier if you drag-and-drop files from your PC to your X5 via the USB connection of the subpack and using Windows Explorer or maybe with JetAudio. Also look at MediaMonkey as another option to keep your music neat and orderly.
If the music files you want to move to the X5 are DRM copy-protected, you need to upgrade to firmware 2.11b1. If you just plain can't wean yourself off WMP, and you have no DRM files, upgrade to firmware 2.10. In both instances, you must connect your X5 to the PC using the Host USB Port on the side of the unit.
Here is the kicker...I am not certain that either of the newest firmwares will play well with WMP 11. I know they are reported to work with WMP 10.
Many users report difficulty initiating and maintaining a reliable connection with apps like WMP, Napster, etc. A tip to connect more reliably when using the Host USB port is to turn on the X5, start playing a music file and then connect to the PC. This procedure has worked for lots of folks.
