i'm actually kind of upset about this player. i've been waiting for it forever and a day and i'm upset about it. ok, it's great that cowon has added a much greater range of codec support and features to the A3, but the battery life has been greatly compromised in my opinion. 10hrs on the A3 compared to the 18 on the A2 and about a 3 hour difference on the video playback. i actually think Cowon should delay it a little bit to improve the battery life, unless the battery life of the A3 is 10 hours when u have the LCD constantly on and the on more than half the brightness.

between the a3 and the q5w, the q5w is definitely the better player. worst case scenario, just buy the a2 lol. im pre-ordering a q5 from a store nearby so i guess i'll post a review when i get it. i decided to choose battery life over multiple codec compatability. as for the question about why the archos is cheaper (and i havent looked into it, this is just a guess), might be due to the new chip cowon is using on the a3 not to mention all the codec support. also, dont the archos pmps need a dock to do video recording?

Ok I emailed the help center for Cowon America regarding the release of the A3 here's what they said..

I have a 60Gb model Cowon A3 - an excellent media device with a lovely, solid, feel to it.
Sound output is first rate in my opinion, my preferred headset being a Sennheiser HD 595 (the A3 is probably a bit large to use whilst engaged in physical activities anyway).
The ability to act as a USB host is a really nice plus too. I can store my music on the A3 and download some as required onto a smaller, more portable, MP3 player without needing a PC. It will also make a handy photo backup device on holiday.
My only real gripe is that the support for VOB video files was lost with the first firmware update - and doesn't seem to have been re-instated yet. It is mentioned in the official spec. and was actually one of the advertised features that first attracted me to this machine.
I am toying with the idea of reverting, but then that would loose the extended battery life the upgrades introduced and a number of other fixes.
