Since I bought a D2 in January have been able to play both FLAC and OGG files. Firmware was 2.57 as supplied on my 16GB D2. Unit was set to MSC.
Was not able to create play list for MP3 files using MSC.

Last week switched setting to MTP and was able to get menu to add play lists to the D2. Unfortunately while the play lists now work my OGG and FLAC files no longer show up. Can't see them at all under any settings, artist, album, etc.

I've done a reset and even have upgraded firmware to 2.59, even switch back to MSC. Am running 32 bit Vista as well as OSX and Linux. Thinking it may be a sync problem but wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Plan to contact Cowon support if they ever allow me to initiate a ticket. Really hate MP3 which is why I bought a D2, but if I can't play OGG or FLAC the D2 goes on Ebay!

UPDATE To:Lost Ability to Play FLAC or OGG files

Have determined the cause of the problem. It's a DRM issue with 'Windows Vista'. Once the D2 is set to 'MTP' Vista syncs with the D2. You can tell by the fact that when the connection folder opens the new folder contains a new icon representing the D2 and it call itself that with the firmware listed in the title.

Vista does NOT recongnize OGG, FLAC or APE as legitimate file types. You can check that in the 'Sync' tab in Vista. When copying the files to the D2 it will tell you as much and inform you that the files will only be stored on the D2. Vista only recognizes WMA and MP3 music files types. Have not yet determined exactly how the transferred files have been marked by Vista to prevent them from playing on the D2 as of yet. (That's my next project). My current work around is to load the OGG, FLAC or APE files from my Linux box, or from a 'Linux Virtual Machine' under Vista.

Wonderful ! A few months ago i asked in the forum, i asked to Cowon and got no result (apart from questioning the quality of my Flac files) and here you gave the most unthinkable solution. Many thanks to you, and one question: how did you find out?

Good question! I think I had some flac files that had been named fla (not by me) and put them on there and they worked, so it was just luck. Also I tried this on my wife's D2+ (I have a D2) and it did NOT work, for some reason...if I figure that one out, I'll let you know...

Well, after a few minutes of messing around with my wife's D2+, I was able to get it to recognize flac files. Here's how I did it. Firt, rename any .flac file you want to put on the player to .fla. Before connecting the D2+ to the USB cable, go into System, settings and change the USB connection type to 'MTP'. Shut off the player and connect the USB cable. The player will show up under 'My Computer' as 'Cowon D2 2.0' and opening that gives you 'Internal Storage' and 'External Storage' (the SD card, if present). Then copy (or move) your .fla files to the folder of your choice on the player. You will get a message to the effect that 'you can copy these files, but they will not be usable on the player as they are not a recognized file extension.' Ignore it and copy them anyway. When you disconnect the player, the files will be visible and will play. Hope it works for all of you.

Does that work on the + only, or on the original version too?
