View Full Version : jetAudio 6.04 sets WAVE sound level to zero
Yesterday I installed JA v6.03 and upgraded online to 6.04.xxxx on a WinXP Pro SP1 PC.
However, whenever I START jetAudio it sets the WAVE sound level to ZERO and the SoundMAX icon in the notification area has a yellow warning sign. I can open the SoundMAX control panel and increase the sound level. Otherwise, JA appears to be working correctly. I don't know whether this problem occurs on v6.03 since I upgraded to 6.04 straight after the initial install.
The SoundMAX drivers are at v5.12.1.3630, WinXP SP1 is fully updated.
In this case, I'm trying to use JA to play RealMedia .ram files. I have installed RealAternative v1.22 as well. JA plays the RM "stream" OK, it's just that I can't hear it !!!
How do I fix this problem?
Cheers

im having the same exact problem...it doesn't happen with mp3 files...only real audio.

i just reinstalled jetaudio 5.1.10 and the problem doesn't occur anymore....its obviously a bug with 6.0.3 so ill just keep using 5.1 until it gets fixed

I spent most of yesterday trying to get JA and a couple of other players working without any success. So I restored my Cdrive from a ghost image I took earlier. Therfore, I can't test this but I'm reasonably sure JA set the sound level to zero when I started it rather than when I tried to access the RM stream ... but I'm not 100% sure. Since the ONLY media file I tried to play in JA was the RM stream, maybe JA tried to automatically reopen it each time JA was restarted.
At least I'm not alone.

Don,
Do you have a download link to the last of the v5.x release of JA?
Cheers

6.0 still isn't working...i checked and it lowers the wav volume to 0 everytime you play a real media file
I completely uninstalled 6.03 and installed 6.04 had no problems with wave volume.
Decided to install MPC Real Alternative 1.22 instead of downloading jetAudio's realmedia runtime files. Then the wave volume problem started.
So I then downloaded and installed jetAudio's real files in hope that it would cure it, but it didn't.
So then uninstalled Real Alternative 1.22 and problem went away.
This ****S though because jetAudio can not handle sites like MTV unless it loads and uses Real Alternative Real files.
Triing an older version of Real Alternative like 1.10 might work, BUTT I found putting 1.22 back on and triing this below workaround to be easier for now unless it later creates problems.
Using Windows Xp Home:
Go to C:\Program Files\Real Alternative\Common ,
rename pen3260.dll to pen3260.dll.bak
Go to C:\Program Files\Jet Audio\Real\Common ,
and copy pen3260.dll and paste to C:\Program Files\Real Alternative\Common
This is working for me. Hope it helps anyone else that tries it. GL
Oh yeah My soundcard is Turtle beach Santa Cruz with 5.12.1.4193 drivers.
Jetisfy
Jetisfy,
Thanks very muchly.
I installed RA v1.22 because I read somewhere (can't remember where) that JA v6.x didn't include the RM codecs (unlike v5.x which did).
Do you have the download link for the JA RM files/codecs that you mentioned in your update or does JA download these files/codecs automatically when needed (I prefer to do it manually if I can)?
Cheers
Barry...
I do wish there was a manual download for jetAudio's real Media runtime files also, BUTT I don't believe they have one yet if ever.
Yes it will automatically download when needed, but if you have Real Alternative installed it won't think it needs them because it will make use of RA's for playback.
To get around that without uninstalling RA is to try and convert an mp3 or wave etc to Real and when it don't find it's own set of real files for conversion it will ask if you want to download and install them.
I'm guessing there around 6 megs in size so if on dial up be patient.
I'm keeping RA1.22 installed because jetAudio alone can't handle some Web Sites that stream RM.
Jetisfy
Thanks Justify, I'll give it a go.
Barry...
i tried this out and it didn't work....i have no directory called jetaudio/real/common directory....i hope that JetAudio makes a patch or something for this since it seems to be causing a lot of problems.
Thanks Justify, I'll give it a go.

Dude, watch it - I think Jetisfy might kill you for that. He probably isn't a Justin Timberlake fan.
Don't be so quick to walk away, Dance with me, I wanna rock your body, Please stay, Dance with me, You don't have to admit you wanna play ...
.i have no directory called jetaudio/real/common directory.
I have it. You sure you looked here?:
C:\Program Files\JetAudio\Real\Common

nope...the only other folders i have in that directors are /skins and /vls.....wonder what is going on?
btw i was messing around will real alternative 1.2 and it stilldidn't work....so i uninstalled it and it jetaudio said theere was no codec to play real audio files so i installed real alternative 1.1 to see if that one woudl work but i kept getting the same message....i tried reinstalling real alternative 1.2 and this time jetaudio works.....i don't have any .wav volume problems.....wonder why this version was so buggy?
@ Don G ,
If you have no Real/Common directory in your jetAudio or jetAudio 6 folders, this
creates questions:
1: where do you have jetAudio installed?
2: did you ever let jetAudio download the real files?
They are seperate install after version 5. Tring to convert something to real should have jetAudio ask if you want to download them and install automatically.
If jetAudio has no real media runtime files installed, HUM must be a RA problem or a real version 10 problem, whichever set of real files JA attempts to use for playback.
I did run RA1.22 without jetAudio installed and it always lowered volume. I'm guessing it does this incase were playing a real file in a web page so as not to be to loud, then safely adjust volume threw web interface.
Butt since it is working for you now with RA only, maybe just letting it as is, works fine for you.
That was my initial attempted way to run them together, but you won't be able to convert anything to realmedia with jetAudio this way. Also RA works better than JA at some websites. That's where I wish jetAudio would get better.
Jetisfy
P.S. eXity, Timberlake is cool, actually I'm jeaulous the lucky son of a gun. lol
no i was never prompted to update any real files or antying like htat.....im gonna try it out later today...ill let you know how it goes

I'm really impressed with ur solution
it did work for me
& 2 things have 2 B known :
1- U R a genius
2- IT DOES SOLVE THE PROBLEM
:D
When you freshly install jetaudio (without prior installtion of real player) and run real media files, jetaudio will prompt for real media codecs to be downloaded from its website and using those you will not face the problem of wave control going automatically to zero playing real media files in jetaudio.
When real player is already installed on your machine, it will not prompt for codecs download and uses the codecs in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Common folder, where the dll pnen3260.dll causes the wave control to go to zero.
So you have to overwrite the pnen3260.dll file with the one provided by jetaudio C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Common folder to solve the problem of wave control going automatically to zero playing real media files in jetaudio.
To get the both enhanced features of real media and also solve the above problem, unistall real player(If its installed already) nad run a real media file in jetaudio which will prompt for real codecs. Download the real files from the jetaudio website and locate the pnen3260.dll in C:\Program Files\Jetaudio\Real\Common and overwrite the one in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Common (ofcourse after installing real player) folder from real player installation.
