green video area -- audio only -- AVI

I just installed JetAduio on my laptop because I don't want to fuss with codecs for Windows Media Player. My friend convinced me to use JetAudio because it wasn't codec needy.

So here I am unable to playback vxid avi videos. I can hear the audio fine, but the area that should contain the video is one annoying green rectangle.

What could be causing this? Please don't make me install a bunch of stuff on my laptop -- the less isntalled the faster it will be.
