I bought an M3 40 GB unit last week. I have USB 1.1 on my PC, so I got USB 2.0 PCI card installed on my PC. Windows XP recognises the new USB 2.0 ports. However, when I connect the M3 on one of the USB 2.0 ports, it doesn?t recognise it. Is there a driver that I need for my Iaudio to work on the USB 2 port?
Do you have Service Pack1 for Windows XP? If I remember correctly, that was required to run USB 2.0 devices. You can get Service Pack1 here:

Have you tried hooking up any other USB devices to your new PCI card?

Yes, I have Windows XP Pro SP1. The PCI card I have is made by Ali. I downloaded installed their latest driver from their website. That didn?t work either. The furthest I got was windows recognising a mass storage device, but when I start up JetShell, it says the M3 is not connected. Windows explorer displays an error when I click on the F:drive, and cannot read it. It works perfectly ok when I plug it into the onboard USB 1.1 port.
Could it be that iaudio M3 is incompatible with Ali PCI card?
That's just weird ...
There might be a possibility of the M3 not working with your card, but have you checked if any other USB devices work wit it?

Yes, other USB devices work fine on the new card, such as ADSL modem, 5 port USB hub. However, they are not USB 2.0 devices. When I check my hardware device manager, the USB controllers has ?Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller?. This suggests to me that Windows recognises the PCI card as an fast USB 2.0 device. So why M3 fails to do the same is a mystery. I?m at a total loss.

Anyone with any ideas on how to resolve it?
Could it be that iaudio M3 is incompatible with Ali PCI card?
...
Yes, other USB devices work fine on the new card, such as ADSL modem, 5 port USB hub. However, they are not USB 2.0 devices. It's possible that the Ali card is not fully compliant with the USB 2.0 spec - you might have to try another card, from a manufacturer such as Adaptec or SIIG.

FANTASTIC. I bought another USB 2 PCI card, and sure enough, it works perfectly. Now I'm returning the old PCI card to the shop and I will give them a piece of my mind, as this has caused a lot grief and waste of my time :)
Thanx for you advice.
