I might be doing something wron and so I request help and opinions.

I have owned the IAUDIO 4 (1GB) for several weeks. I am using alkaline batteries (not rechargeables) and I seem to be only getting 3 to 4 hours out of a battery, if that. No, I am not using the backlight features at all to play with the music etc. I am not using any of these fancy display colors or anything. Just playing straight music (MP3s). I thought I was supposed to be getting over ten hours of play out of a battery. As it stands I am getting three if I am lucky.

I need assistance before I speak with COWON in terms of a defect.

Everyones advice is appreciated. What are you getting out of your bateries. And what do you suggest I do.

I get much more than 4 hours from each alkaline AAA that I use on my 256MB iA4 - haven't timed it, but probably in the 8-10 hour range. These are Duracells from a warehouse club, guaranteed fresh through to 2009. I use no equalization, some mild JetEffects, and usually have the volume between 20 and 27. Backlight time is 5 seconds and visualization is Off. Almost all of my iA4 usage is listening to MP3's (VBR compressed via "--alt-preset-standard" in LAME). I listen with earbuds that are relatively easy to drive.

So I don't think your usage is causing heavy power drainage. It really does sound like your iA4 has a hardware defect that's ****ing power at a high rate. Try e-mailing iA4 support or posting to the forums at eng.iaudio.com - response times can be pretty good.

Good luck.
