View Full Version : Cowon D2 will not work on mac
I just switched to a mac and noticed that my cowon d2 will not recognize properly on my mac. The Cowon D2 shows up on my mac as "D2" and then i start to drag and drop music files over, once it says they are complete, i turn it on, only to realize that it says "no music" and or i get a completely frozen screen. I had the firmware version 2.55, just updated to 2.59 and it still does the same thing. Also, another odd thing is, one time i plugged in my Cowon D2 and this time instead of "D2" it read "COWON" ironically, when i moved files over and turned it on, it worked, however since then it's been saying "D2" and nothing is working...any help here would greatly be appreciateed, otherwise guess i'll have to go shopping for another player...  Thanks for any help in advance.
wow this forum is pretty useless...

When you save music and/or videos on the Cowon D2 with a Mac there is also a hidden file saved. This hidden file is .DS_Store and once it's corrupted it can cause the Cowon D2 to: not recognize music files, freeze, not display ID3 tags.
Erase your D2 memory and make sure the music you put on your D2 is free of this .DS_Store.
I erased all the .DS_Store files in my music on a windows computer (using a memory stick) and then put them on the D2 and all problems were gone.
Erasing the .DS_Store files on a mac won't work, because once you've deleted them Mac just adds new ones.
I'm still trying to find out how these .DS_Store files can get corrupted, once I've found out, I'll post it here.
Has anyone found any possible solutions to this issue yet? I have had no luck at all and it is getting very tiring.
Thanks
Had my D2 for over a year. It is a pain in the butt. Will not work with a mac except when running windows. Would have thought they would have fixed this by now. Thinking I may need to switch players. Do not find this a very stable unit.

Same thing happens on the Cowon S9. There is an app called BlueHarvest for $13 that will prevent the .DS_Store from being created in locally attached storage and network shares. "DS_Store Cleaner" will clean the files after the fact and is free. I wish Apple would build this in but also that Cowon would gracefully program around this files by ignoring them.

I'm just looking for a new DAP, forget Cowon lol, this is ridiculous, how can you advertise that it supports Apple/Mac, yet it doesn't. I liked my player, but it turns out it's a waste now, time to move on to another company, I shouldn't have to do all this extra shit, just to get it to work, for the money I paid. Hmm, this is posted in the wrong forum, sorry, please move.
