Hey guys ? new to the forum here. Have done quite a lot of research on MP3 players over the past week. Eventually rounded my choices down between the Iriver iFP-395T and the iAUDIO CW300, but one thing that caught my attention while reading numerous reviews is this:

Not sure if anyone has made mention of this on the forums before but does anyone find that when the backlight is activated on their CW300 256MB a high-pitched whine emanates from the player?

This has been made mention of over at Athlonxp.com as well as in a few reviews on cnet regarding the product.
I hope this issue is addressed in the 512MB version of the CW300.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No "high-pitched whine" at all in my CW300/256. I've trided to use the player with backlight on right now and I can't hear any whine.

I got my player last week and I have (original) firmware 4.27 installed.

Furthermore, Ben Sparks, the author of the review on AthlonXP updated his article on 06/24/03 and said...
quotation:UPDATE 6/24/03: Upon reading this review, I was contacted by a representative of Cowon Systems, (the manufacturer,) who insisted that the "backlight whine" I had complained about in my writing was a manufacturing defect in that specific unit. He suggested that I test another unit, which I now have, and I can say that the whine is no longer present.

Hi,

I found this post on iAUDIO page. Maybe sometimes it is normal that you get a small high-pitched sound, especially in the tuner mode, when you use the backlight.

Hi Fennec,
bad news, I bought a CW300 512 two weeks ago and I have the same problem. I updated to firmware 4.32 but nothing has changed.
See my post in the Technical Support area "Hiss when backlight is on during voice rec" and the replies from others.
By the way, my problem is in VR mode only.
Regards

Marco
