Hi guys,
I was trying to create a playlist and then copy it onto my M3 playlist folder.
I use mediamonkey to do the synchronization and transferring songs/playlists to M3. I have a "Music" folder which contains artist folders and all the mp3 songs for a particular artist.
The problem is that when i transfer m3u file to "playlists" folder it also copies the all the songs in the playlist in the Music folder, when in fact they are already present in artist folders, so i have a lot of duplicate songs that are in the playlists.
Does anyone know how can i create a playlist from my M3 so that i have only one copy of each song?
Thanks in advance. ..

ahh yes! MediaMonkey is kinda tricky at first!
I found the syncronization process of this program to be a little annoying! You have to kinda set things to your liking before doing anything! Hopefully u still have everything nicely organized on MM with the playlists and all.
Best thing to do now is to delete all the files off the M3 (and u can just resync them if ur MM stuff is still there)!
Now go into TOOLS > OPTIONS
Go Down to PORTABLE DEVICE in the listed menu! There it asks u for what drive u want...etc etc! Then where it says "If unspecified, copy tracks to:" put here MUSIC (the main music folder of the m3) then / Artist / or w/e you want! make sure u get it right the first time so u dont have to redo this! Unless u dont have about 3000 songs to sync the first time :p!
Well once u have that setup (this is where ur music will be copied to...so like MUSIC/<Artist>/<Filename> etc! whatever u want.
Next below that u should make sure its checked where it says "Copy M3U Playlists" then where it asks you for the folder make sure u can \Playlist\ or whatever the m3 folder is called. (either playlist..or playlistS) i dunno for sure!
Next in the left hand menu go to syncronization and be sure to CHECK the ones that you want! Then all the playlist files should go into playlist folder and the other stuff will go into their appropriate music folders!
Hope this helps...maybe u already knew this! But once uve checked off which playlists u want syncronized then just do okay on the options thing and do a sync! Simple as that!
I hope i didnt write this for nothin haha =P

Thanks a lot for the reply .. I really appreciate for the long detailed reply ;)
I understood the procedure you have explained, just had a Q, if i create a new playlist do i need to delete all the files from M3 and sync everything again?
Its very time consuming to sync as i have USB 1.1 on my laptop ..
Again thanks a lot !!!

well for new playlists make sure you have the COPY MP3 TRACKS unchecked...so it only copies the playlist file!
Haha i wasnt too sure EXACTLY what u were looking for so i decided to explain the whole dealy (well i was confused at first too with MM haha)!
Thanks vlad, I might try that myself - I hadn't worked out MM yet either :o

I resynchronized everything and created a few playlists ... All of them worked without copying duplicate files. Then i disconnected and created more playlists and synced just those and all of this works without copying duplicate songs...
Thanks a lot dude ... you ROCK :hurray: :hurray:
BTW : your efforts in typing long replies did not go waste ....
FYI: i understood y songs in playlists were being copied again: i was synchronizing it at 2 different places, on laptop and machine. :D :D
