Things I'd like to learn (not necessarily the hard way)

1) What implementations of the various formats work/don't work with the unit? As an example, if I use GordianKnot to make an Xvid or DIVX file, will it work?

2) Best way to rip a personally owned DVD into an alternative file format to save space. I'm using the unit for my handcapped son, to save the damage to the DVDs and have a video jukebox, and would like to maximize space.

3) Tips or tricks for the unit?

And just how does the "filter" aspect work? How do you have to set things up so the Video and Audio and Photo buttons on the remote actually do something?
