How can I remove the JetAudio context menu handlers? My rt click menu is too full already, and I can't seem to find these in the registry. I'm actually surprised that this isn't an option in prefs! Help would be much appreciated.

There is, but that would also prevent JetAudio from opening the files when you click them:

Going to prefs within JetAudio Select File->File Type assosiation. Click clear all and update.

Then the next time you open a file, it will open probably with other player. To fix that, right click the file, choose Open With->Choose Program..., and then select JetAudio from the list, and check "Use always this program to...". Now all files of that type will open with JetAudio with no context menu

I don't know if there is an easier way to do this... :(

You have WinXP - check the registry again but under:
HKeyClassRoot/Direktory/Shell/
There you can delete all the entries what you don't like in the context menu.

Befor you start working with registry save it completely or at least the special key where you are working.

Trinix, i think it is HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shellex\ContextMenuHan dlers\jetAudio

There you will find the string {8D1636FD-CA49-4b4e-90E4-0A20E03A15E8} . Just remove the last bracket and the context menu should be disabled (might need a restart). You can add the bracket later in case you want the context meu back (that's safer than deleting the key)

EDIT: I'm not sure if that will work. I have just checked the registry and jetAudio adds a context menu key for each filetype. For example:

* For mp3 goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.mpe\ShellEx\C ontextMenuHandlers\jetAudio
* For wma HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\wmafile\shelle x\ContextMenuHandlers\jetAudio

And so on... I will check if there some sort of utility that does this instead of having to mess with the registry

I have only found this one:http://www.pcmag.com/print_article/0,3048,a=109622,00.asp

But it isn't free :(

Hi,

I just was thinking about the different entries in the registry.
I think JetAudio is in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shellex because it creates a CLSID (ClassIdentifier; {8D1636FD-CA49-4b4e-90E4-0A20E03A15E8}) when it is installed and choosed as the default player in Preferences > Disc > Audio CD > Association (right side) Register.
In contrast to that, my Foobar2k player is registerd under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell and in the folder Command the Value is the directory to the foobar.exe, and this is something like a shortcut.

The Directory folder of HKEY_Clasess_Root contains the CLSIDs that will be referenced when the user right clicks a folder. So deleteing if you delete it, the options "create JetAudio's album", "add to jetaudio's album" that appear when you right click a folder, will be gone.

Yes of course. But I thought that was the concern of Satyr

I meant that deleting that specific key would only remove the context menu for a folder. I think the best could be to a a search in the registry for the JetAudio's CLSID and delete entries for folders+files

Ok, you think he would delete special context menu entries for special folders and special files...than it isn't so easy. In my opinion that is a bit effort to figure out all these entries.
I think it would be really helpful if Satyr could make a comment.

Yep i also think it is anything but easy (consider the registry mess this thread has become). I think the best solution is to see this feature added to JetAudio

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to come back and check this. I'll look through the reg again and see what I find. Thanks. :)

I was mostly concerned with my folder menu. It got so big that I have to scroll, and I don't like scrolling rt click menus. It's irritating. Yet, everything I have there now, I use. The Jet Audio options I don't use. Ultimately, it would be nice to have this option added to either the Jet Audio install, or the config options. Every program should give you the option of removing the context menu entries, IMO.

BTW, I found this free context/shell menu editor. Scroll down a bit and get "ContextEdit". It's not the PC Mag version, I guess, but it seems to work.

Oh my eyes! That page is too red!! Uhm that utility isn't suppose to be free. It also forms part of the PcMag Subscription service...

Hope you got your problem solved then!

Has anyone found a solution to this?
I tried registry searches (dozens and dozens of keys) as well as the context editor utility..the latter can't even find an association with mp3s nor jet audio. This is pretty annoying. thanks for any help.

The inability to easily and safely remove the useless IMO context menu entrys
is the only thing I don't like so far about Jet. It maybe the only thing I don't like but it isn't trivial. In fact I find that no one from Jet Audio is here to tell us how it's done quite revealing and damning. What more is there to say?

ATI adds an entry that is similar and I was able to remove that but that was attached to a dll as this problem might be, Who's to say? I'll look around. I see where my post is 2 years gone so this must have not been available in the stone age
