Hello All,

I received my X5 just a couple days ago and I'm very excited.
Still in the phase of exploring and discovering I got a question about the hard drive. I'm very careful and nervous that it could damage easily.

When I select a folder with music to play, I notice a soft click and I imagine that the player loads a song in memory and then turns off the hard drive. That sounds like a smart way of preventing damage while music is playing.

So, is my observation correct, or is this just a fantastic idea?

Also, I'm using dBpowerAMP to convert my CD's. It generates m3u files too, but I notice that the files contain the path to the destination on my computer (e:\ripped\...) Which m3u editor do you suggest to edit or create m3u files?

Thank you

Welcome wilbertnl!

The click sound in the X5 occurs when the hard drive is being accessed. There is some buffer in the unit, but likely not enough to hold entire songs. I would not go jogging or enter a boxing match with the X5 on me, but the hard drive is pretty rugged, though.

You can create playlists with any decent sudio software you like to use. The important thing to remember is the path to the songs on your PC must match exactly with the path on the X5. So you can create playlists directly on the X5 or on your PC. Some music managers I use include MediaMonkey, MusicIP mixer and JetAudio. A couple of good rippers to check out include EAC (Exact Audio Copy) and Audiograbber (insanely easy to use).

Hope this info helps out some.

Thank you, Breakfastchef,
I will look into the suggested software. :)

I do like dBpowerAMP because it supports accuraterip.

Question: My Step Brothers Archos 104 makes that same clicking noise. I was worried as well.

You can make a playlist in two basic ways -

1. With the X5 connected to the PC, you make a playlist from the music on the X5 hard drive.

2. If the directory structure of the MUSIC folder on your X5 is the same as the directory structure on your PC, you can make playlists without the X5 connected. You only need to transfer the playlists to the Playlist folder of the X5. The playlist refers to locations of tunes in your music folder so both the X5 and PC music filders and files must be identical.
