Hi

My computer has recently developed a fault whereby it cannot boot up when my iAudio M3 is not connected to it. It gets to the Windows 2000 load screen and then blue screens with a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED 0x0000001E error.

It was traced back to a USB device not being connected (M3) or the drivers of the device not being present. After trying to solve the problem, I ended up reinstalling Windows. I then tried to see if the problem would re-occur when I connected my M3 on the clean system, which it did. As soon as I tried booting up without the M3 connected, the same error appeared.

Windows picks up the device as being a mass storage device as being a USB Mass storage device but is not accessible from Windows Explorer, Device Manager has this error:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Is there a list of sys/driver files that the M3 installs onto Windows when it is first detected as a USB plug and play device? I want to try to remove these files to see if that will rectify the boot up issue.

Has anyone else come across a similar error, or have any tips on what I could try to rectify this error?

Thanks

Michael

The only thing I can think that you might check is the boot order of your devices. Before the computer starts loading the zOS, there is an "F" key you can hit that takes you to a setup screen; wouldn't know what that key command would be for your system. In the setup is a list of devices that boot in the order they appear on the list. Check to see if the USB drive is on that list and maybe move it to the bottom of the list. I would not be comfortable to suggest that you actuall delete the USB device (if it is on the list) because I have no idea how that would affect system stability.

Also contact customer support with Live Chat on this website. Perhpas they might have a recommendation or solution.

Its not the M3, its your computer. I had the same problem before, but with another device. Older computers, before usb 2.0 was installed in them, somehow have bootup errors when they have usb 2.0 devices plugged into them. so just plug it in after boot up.

Yep I had the same with my w2000 laptop and a USB wireless adaptor. My x5 works fine though.

Hm, I think I ( and the rest of us .. ) maybee misunderstood Michal's problem. He states his problem is when his M3 is NOT connected at boot time. Most of the replies he had was on problems when you DO have a USB device connected at boot time. Just like mine. So maybee the problem is related to whether Michal is using MS update to get the latest patches for W2000. I do that on my laptop and don't have the problem ...
