File Browser: Music and File modes

I've got iAudio 7 (8 GB) today and started to explore it. I have transfered some music to it. The sound is great! I like the feel of it and its design. However, the curious thing is about browsing music files. There are two modes: Music and File modes; they are two options of File Browse, located in General settings (Settings - General - File Browse). The curious thing is that music tags are not recognisible if Music mode is used. However, iAudio displays correctly all tags (Artist, Album, etc.) if File mode is used. I have transferred music by using jetAudio, and jetAudio displays correctly all tags. Should I use some other application for transferring music files? What should I do in order to have displayed correctly tags in Music browsing mode. Actually, I prefer File mode, but I am simply curious why it is not working in Music mode.

Kind regards,
Kalkas

If you are using .ogg by any chance then music/tag mode is broken. We await a patch. I believe .mp3 'sort of works', not sure about .wma. Luckily I prefer file mode too.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am using ogg format. Good news that the problem will be solved with the new update.

Ah, you misunderstand .. We HOPE the problem will be fixed in next (or some future) update, because we've sure told Cowon all about it .. but I certainly wouldn't bet money on it being in 1.16 or whatever comes next.

It is truly weird that the player can read .ogg tags in file/folder mode, but falls in a heap trying to do it in tag/music mode. You require some really creatively screwed up firmware engineering to SNAFU things that interestingly.

Re: File Browser: Music and File modes

Damn... Should I encode my cd in .ogg or .mp3, then?(lol... can I say that? English is NOT my mother tongue...)

Also... What is the difference between file mode and music mode? I'm asking because I don't have my iAudio 7 yet...

This is stupid... This thing is an AUDIO PLAYER but we have to use a "file mode" to play our music... ?!

Re: File Browser: Music and File modes

File mode just means you browse the contents of the player by folder/file like in Windows. In music/tag browsing mode you can browse/play by artist, album, or genre, (whatever tags it can read/index) regardless of where you put the files.

Personally I'd encode in .ogg and use file/folder mode. Sounds better than .mp3 to my ears (at same bitrate), and ags for .mp3 are not exactly perfect either.

It was not fixed in 1.16 which is what I am running now. It's shame.

Re: File Browser: Music and File modes

I'm new to this player and the tag's bug with ogg is a problem. I saw a list of the bug fixes for 1.17 and they worked with the tag but... I installed 1.17 and there is still a problem with metadata in ogg files.
1. the track (?) (aka title) works OK
2. the album, artist, genre, year do not work. They do work for mp3.

Thinking it was a parsing error I tried to using different fields filled with data to see if I can pick up a way to get around but so far none of the metadata fields are seeing except track that parse title.
Considering that one of the major assets of this player is that it can play ogg files this needs to be fixed. Having not playlists and not able to search in based on metadata are major handicaps. Otherwise a superb player. I wish the firmware would have been opensource so we can help to fix the bugs.
