File playing in Jet. Why? and why is the 'jump to' closing the file

Ok so first I used to goto this site that even tho Jet had all my extensions, the files on there would only play on WMP or Real, whichever player you chose.

Now, I reformatted my computer the other day. I installed Jet again
I don't know if it is because of something in Jet, or something I installed differently (I did not put Klite on. Someone said I don't need all that), or something that the site did different, BUT when I clicked on Real, it did the same, but the WMP it played them all in Jet .

This is fine, in fact preferred, but when I clicked on the slider to go ahead, it kept closing the file . Any idea???

I thought it may be my new Logitech Revolution which is very sensitive. But it was not; I hooked up an old mouse and it did the same thing.

Again , it plays fine and jumps ahead fine in Real.

it's definitely codec-conflict with jetAudio.
i recommend intalling latest RealAlt., QuickTimeAlt., Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP). after that, try to install anything that CCCP suggests you are missing.

can I have those with their Alt's. Or should I delete them

do you really recommend what you said I know that Klite Mega has them. Can I get them there and anything else you might recommend??

if you prefer Real and QT, then it's ok.
what i like about CCCP is that it will tell you what things you are missing and direct you to the missing codecs.
since it has a nice uninstaller, you can uninstall it if you dont like it.

excuse my 'slowness' and not being on top of things in this area--

so to summarize. I should get what you said. It is ok to get real and quick alt AND keep their individual players on my computer. THe program you said is better than K Lite.

Do I have it.

Thanks so much for your time. I know you people with the know how in here do not have to spend your time helping , but you do.

Someone told me to just get vlc it plays everythign. but I prefer to use Jet as my all around player. CAn you explain the jist of codecs...so why if wmp has the mpg codec, why does my jet not have access to it. (and why on Jets homepage does it say can play every main filetype. I would believe mpg is one of those)

there are a very few players in the world that comes with "all" codecs by itself. vlc belongs to that group.

basically, almost all audio/video/media players uses "codecs" to play/record audio/video. jetAudio has it's OWN mp3 codec as far as i know. there should be a lot more too. but certain codecs are licenced meaning you cant include/bundle those with your software (sometimes but not always, unless you pay them). however, those codecs are usually free to be downloaded by indivisuals like us. and vlc, as far as i know, they have their "OWN" codecs. the codecs they bundle with their software are written by them and no other program like jet, has access to those.

jetAudio used to have (4.xx versions) QT and Real codecs bundled. no need to install QT or Real. but since jet5, they are not included coz of some licencing issue.
Other than these two, you should install DivX, Xvid etc codecs.
i like CCCP coz after intalling, it specifically shows you what things are you missing and gives you links to download the missing parts.
