JA Media Center, Windows Media Player, and MS ActiveSync
I have MS ActiveSync installed to sync up my PDA with my laptop. Each time I use it, it tries to set itself to load with Windows but I then remove the registry settings which causes it to do so. That's not a big hassle since I usually only sync up every 10 days or so. I don't want it running all the time because I don't need it all the time and one of its two resident processes (rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe) is, at least on my system, a misbehaving memory hog.
Beginning with WMP 11 (I think; I may have skipped over a version or two), every time WPM 11 starts it also starts those two processes and sets them to start with Windows. Still not much of a hassle to kill them, because I don't like WPM and don't use it any more than I have to.
I d/l and installed JA7 yesterday, only to discover that its Media Center also does the same thing. The player by itself does not, as far as I can tell so far, just the MC.
Does anyone know whether JA or WMP runs rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe on purpose, or do they just do it accidentally?
