How to play YouTube videos on Cowon A2

Now that I've seen many users trying to load YouTube on their players, I thought I should write a 'how to'. YouTube videos are actually FLV, or FLash Video files, created by mpg videos, so we'll need an encoder/decoder for it.
(Note:Although the title refers to Cowon A2 (which I have) I believe this procedure should work for other Cowon players as well.)

1) Download and install Riva FLV Encoder here. It's a free utility, that comes with an encoder and FLV player.

2) Open up the YouTube page the video you want is on. Let it load completely.

3) Browse to your Temporary Internet Files folder. I assume most users are on Win2000/XP machines, so go to Documents and Settings folder and run a search for 'get_video' (without quotes). Every video you watch on YouTube is copied on your harddrive (under Temporary Internet Files folder) automatically, so if you've watched videos before they'll all come up. Once you find your get_video file, create a temporary folder and copy it under that. Give it a name and rename extension to flv. (e.g. testvideo.flv).

4) Start Riva FLV player and try playing the video. If it's playing normally, it should convert normally as well. (Some flv files may not play)

5) Close the player and start the encoder. Click the Browse button and load your renamed flv file. Select an output directory (I recommend the same folder your flv is in). Now this is important: When you select the input file, output file is automatically given the same name and extension. The trick is to rename the extension to mpg. (e.g. testvideo.mpg). This tells the encoder to convert to mpg.

6) On the right side, select Movie Size (400x300 works pretty good for CowonA2), Frame Rate (29.97 is smooth enough) and Bitrate (affects the output file size, 768 is good quality but bigger versus 360).

7) FLV files aren't really known for their excellent audio quality, so for audio settings choosing a bitrate above 56-64kB and sampling rate above 22050 Hz with mono audio won't really do any good other than inflating the final file size. It's up you.

8) Hit Encode. (Your PC may slow down a bit during conversion, just be patient!)

9) Now all you gotta do is to convert the mpg file to avi with JetAudio and load it on your player.

i'd like to add some info here.
instead of step 2 and 3, you can do this:

download Free Download Manager (FDM) here.
it has a special flash video downloader function not to mention this is currently the BEST download manager (flashget ****s) and it is add-free.
even though it is easy, if you can't figure out how to use it, it has a nice help file with it.

EDIT: oh! i forgot!! it can convert youTube/google video automatically.

1)all videos from you tube are in flv ( flash video)
use firefox plugin download helper to download files in flv to your pc hardrive.
then convert them to avi. or mpeg by Pazera Free FLV to AVI Converter

i don't want to be mean but why would you compare the qual/resolution of the psp w/ the A2 on YOUTUBE. The vid quality is significantly dropped and so its impossible to see the difference. Wouldn't it make more sense to put it up on mythica or another host?

i don't want to be mean but why would you compare the qual/resolution of the psp w/ the A2 on YOUTUBE. The vid quality is significantly dropped and so its impossible to see the difference. Wouldn't it make more sense to put it up on mythica or another host?
