Short Battery Life in iAudio X5

Dear Guys,

Here’s hoping someone can help me understand what I’m doing wrong to shorten the battery life of my iAudio X5.

After only ten months’ usage, the battery in my iAudio X5 would last only eight hours instead of the usual 14. Cowon replaced the battery since it was still under warranty. Now, after only three more months, the replacement battery is again lasting only eight hours.

I typically recharge the battery when it starts to go low, but I am very careful to do this only two times before I let the battery run completely down and then recharge.

During the first ten months with the original battery, I used the iAudio X5 for line-in encoding for about 100 hours. I also played the machine some two to four hours a day. When I played the machine, I mostly used 64 Kbps because I was listening to audio books. I had the backlight off, and used none of the sound enhancements.

With the new, replacement battery, I have only been listening (no line-an encoding) – using the machine four to six hours a day, 64 Kbps, backlight off, no sound enhancements. Occasionally, I use the sleep timer to turn the machine off after an hour.

The only other thing I do is that some of the playing time is done by connecting the machine to small radio loudspeakers using the line-out plug on the subpack. When I do this, I have the iAudio X5 volume really low and use the volume adjustment on the speakers instead. Can it be that playing the iAudio X5 through loudspeakers degrades the battery and shortens its life?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Re: Short Battery Life in iAudio X5

LiIon batteries prefer not to be run right down. They do have a limited life (time from manufacture) after which the capacity (or apparent capacity) reduces. Go read all about it at:
