u2 start issues

In the past couple days my iaudio u2 mp3 player has been giving me some problems. It takes a very. VERY. long time to start up. I thought perhaps the play button was worn out and not clicking or something, but when the player does turn on (anywhere from 30 seconds to 6 minutes of trying to activate it) all the buttons and functions respond instantly. (and yes, the battery is charged). At first it seemed like it was taking longer and longer to turn on, but then it turned around and started quickly another time, then back to slow starts. I'm confused as to what it's doing and if there is a way to fix it, or if it's eventually never going to start again.
