Which plays louder - iRiver or iAudio
On the issue which plays louder...the following is copied from a thread in the old forum. Note there are 2 posts below...
It seems that CW300 has a weaker output than iRiver iFP-390T. I loaded the same file using the same earphones and comparing the same volume level(@ 20), the iRiver seems a bit louder than my CW300. --------------------------------------------------- Ya, I have a ifp 390 too, and at 20 it does seem a little louder, but the cw really picks up at 30 to 40 [compare your 390 and your cw 300 at vol 33 and you will see what I mean] and seems much louder than my 390-- [top volume] I don't know how they rate their power [iriver] but I think it's misleading, I think my specs on my 390 say 12mw a channel-- there is no way that is right because my cw is 8mw a channel and it definately gets louder than my 390 and the bass is much better- I like the menu on my iriver better, and the radio reception is a little better on the 390 , but for sound I think iaudio wins out easily [I just think the amp really jumps up in volume at the top third-where the iriver is a more even volume, but I can mow the lawn[loud] with the iaudio and I keep the volume at about 33-34 and its plenty loud -- but with the iriver I have to push the amp all the way to hear and it still isn't as loud as iaudio -- I think the output rating for the 390 is more like 6mw per channel[different ohm rating maybe ??]-- I found the same thing with my old mpio player, my iriver cd [slim x] player was rated at 12mw per ch and my mpio got louder and was rated at 7 mw - nice player though [mpio] but I spilled a coke on it. I think they all are nice mpio, iriver, and iaudio but for sound I don't think you can beat iaudio, and my cw drives my grados 60's and sony studio phones better than the iriver -- I was going to give it my 390 to my son, but he doesn't think it sounds as good as his yepp yp-700 [a very nice unit I don't know if samsung even sells it any more]so I guess I will sell on ebay - nice unit but I just use my cw more. out, Scott.P.S-- I also noticed that my older mp3's taken from cd's Yes, jeff beck,rush- roll the bones the bee gees [don't laugh]only sound good -- "loud and with good bass" on my iaudio and my old panasonic cd player they sound weak on my new sony cd player and the 390 -- newer stuff sounds good, weird!! |

Hi,
Is the maximum loudness really such an important thing? I set store by the sound quality much more and I have to say in this case the CW is absolutly great. ![]() |

The bass in iAudio is very good.
It can offer strong bass even at low volumes, thanks to the bass loudness feature. |

The bass sounds good, provided the earphones are inserted properly. However, i find the sound lacking considerably in the mids...It seems to produce only the high treble and bass sounds. As a result, the 'singer's voice' portion of songs often sound muted. I would prefer the Sony groove earphones (with the bass booster extension). They produce a more balanced, warm sound, with adequate bass and treble while not compromising the mids. |
