Serious Bug in MP3PRO Internet Streaming in 6.1.6
I run an Internet Radio station using a standard M3U file and HTTP streaming from my dedicated audio web server. The bug I have just found in version 6.1.6 of JetAudio Pro is that when playing certain MP3PRO files (not all of them) using HTTP streaming (or when I try to "Open URL" for that particular file) it refuses to play that MP3Pro file and stops the M3U playlist, hence stopping the listener that uses JetAudio from hearing my streaming radio station.
This happens with about 10% of the MP3Pro files which I have on my server. The other 90% play fine. In fact 100% of the MP3Pro files play fine with JetAudio when I open them individually from my hard drive. The problem only surfaces when I either try to use the "Open URL" button directly from JetAudio or when I am listening to a M3U file that has http://www.myservername.com/mp3profile.mp3 entries in it with these approximately 10% "problem" MP3PRO files. I created all of these files myself and they all play and stream using other audio players, so the problem has been narrowed down to JetAudio. Note: If you click on the link below and open that file using JetAudo automatically it isn't likely to cause theis bug, only when "Open URL" button inside JetAudio or when playing the problem file using a M3U extended playlist file such as the one featured below that causes JetAudio to exhibit this bug. I have tried playing the same M3U playlist from both my local hard drive and the off my web server with the same problem with about 10% of the MP3Pro files refusing to play and stopping the plaback of the M3U playlist. This stops my radio station stream from playing for the user. When JetAudio hits one of these approximately 10% of my songs that I am streaming, it displays "MP3 Pro" briefly and then displays "MP1 288Kbps" then after about 20 seconds displays the bitrate as "MP1 416Kbps VBR", then in a bit is goes back to "MP1 288Kbps" does a short audio "pop" sound and continue to cycle through the bitrates slowly WITHOUT ever plaing any of the MP3PRO audio file. I have included direct URL HTTP links to the "problem files" and also to a playlist of 79 MP3PRO files which has the first song being on of the 10% "problem files" that display this bug in JetAudio. You can forward to song # 2 in the playlist and it will play fine, etc. There are a total of 79 songs in each of my playlists and 8 of them (about 10%) have problems when streaming in JetAudio (but not with local hard drive playback). Also you can save the below individual files to your hard drive and "Open" them using JetAudio from the hard drive and they will be properly recognized as 64k MP3Pro and play fine. But if you try to listen to them using http:// streaming from a web server or use the JetAudio "Open URL" button and field it will display this very annoying bug. Could you kindly look into this and correct it as it is causing my JetAudio users to complain about my Internet station. Here are 3 URLs to MP3PRO files that cause the playback bug in JetAudio. Paste these URLs into "Open URL" box inside JetAudio or try to listen to them using the below M3U file to re-create bug: http://www.ftpq.com/radio/hymns/0051.mp3 http://www.ftpq.com/radio/hymns/0004.mp3 http://www.ftpq.com/radio/hymns/0026.mp3 Here is one of my M3U files for my Internet station that has an entry for one of the bug creating files first. Forward or rewind it to hear it play back other files from my station fine (except those other 10% problem files contained in the M3U playlist): http://www.hymns.tv/play/hymns6.m3u Please let me know what you find. This bug is very annoying and causing much frustration to my station's listeners. I have 27 different playlists each containg these 79 URLs to MP3PRo files in random order, and they all exhibit this JetAudio bug whenever one of the 8 "problem MP3PRO files" comes up in the M3U playlist rotation. It effectively ends the playback of the Internet M3U stream. Remember you can right click on one of the 3 above MP3PRO files and "Save File As" to your hard drive then open it locally using JetAudio to see that the file is OK and properly recognized by JetAudio as a 64k MP3PRO file. Only when that file is HTTP streamed into JetAudio using "Open URL" or a M3U playlist with an http:// entry pointing to one of those files will JetAudio "choke" and stop playing the Internet streaming radio station. This problem is exhibited on JetAudio's latest build (6.1.6) and not any other audio player I have tested it with. Other players play my streaming station (m3u file) fine. Thank you for your bug report.
We check your problem. Before release, we would like to make sure if the problem has been fixed. Could you please test ? Simply unzip the attached file, then copy JFMP3Rd.dll to jetaudio folder. Thank you. |

But it unfortunately introduced a new bug: Now JetAudio will stop after playing the first .mp3 file in the M3U playlist and not automatically advance to the next song. Of course, you can still manually fast forward or reverse to the next or previous song in the playlist, but prior to installing this fix it played all files in the M3U playlist sequentially until it hit an MP3PRO file that it had a problem with (which your patch does indeed now appear to fix). Somehow, only when the file is using http://server/filename.mp3 addressing in the M3U file, JetAudio will now with this patched file only play the first song in the playlist then stop. I tried it using a M3U file on my PC that just addressed local files on my hard drive and it did not stop after the first song in the playlist. But a local M3U file on my hard drive addressing all http://url/filename.mp3 files did exhibit this stopping after the first song problem. Could you kindly look into this and let me know if you want me to test another patch and I will again report back to you. Note: You can use my above test .M3U URL link in this thread to test this behavior, although you must listen completely through the first song in the playlist, then it will stop instead of automatically advancing like it is supposed to do. Thanks so much for finding and fixing the MP3PRO http:// streaming playback problem. Hopefully this stopping problem after the first song URL in the http:// streaming M3U file should be easy for you to fix ![]() Please let me know. Last edited by woeger : 04-19-2005 at 16:08. |

"This kind of great technical support" ?????
Sorry....but I'm not seeing anything even close to that....but then again...I have'nt spent any money here yet... Pardon me if I seem too critical but..."Great" hardly describes it as far as I'm concerned.. I'd be happy to get even an acknowledgement of my questions/issues from the tech support people here... I have yet to get even that... I've posted several messages in the jetCast forums... e-mailed them 2 or 3 times now.. (I can't remember) simply and politely asking very basic questions about jetCast and jetAudio...both of which I think are pretty cool...but....to my dissappoitment... not a single word received back from them...nothing...zip... Thanks jetAudio Team.. just remember...word of mouth about a product can be a huge help with it's success....it can also be a major cause for it's marketing failure.. And to be honest and straight forward....I'm used to a little better treatment when I consider spending my hard earned dollars on something... Think "value-added services" when dealing with your potential customers.. and maybe they will return to be repeat customers.. In the event that this message gets your attention jetAudio Team...and you maybe decide to view some of my messages...and perhaps respond to them....they are all still there in the jetCast forums..and probably a few in your e-mail inbox.. Regards, R.D. NY, NY A Cowon customer...? unknown... still thinking it over... |

I am looking forward to seeing these fixes for MP3PRO radio streaming implemented in an upcoming release of JetAudio. I was communicating with their tech person via the thread, and I do appreciate these bug fixes they have provided and worked on for me and other users also experiencing this problem. Without these fixes my Internet radio station would not play correctly in their player.
I am sorry to hear JetAudio hasn't replied to you personally. They are usually helpful when I post to this forum with a bug report or suggestion for improvement. Perhaps it is that you aren't (yet) a registered user. Some companies only provide tech support to their existing customers, of which I am one with JetAudio Pro. As far as the word "great" is concerned, I am referring to the quickness (within a few days) of posting bugfixes/patches for an audio player software that Cowan provided me to test. Then I found an additional issue, which they quickly also fixed. This is highly unusual for a large corporation these days. I think they deserved a strong "Thank You" for being so attentive to correcting this matter that I pointed out. So my opinion, "great" still stands. Try getting Microsoft, Adobe or another large shop to make bug fixes that fast (or even respond to you at all). So, I am very happy with Cowan's tech support. Forgive me if it appeared that I was attempting to degrade or take away from the importance of your support issue....I know how it feels to have a confusing problem that one cannot resolve on their own...
I'm glad that it was resolved in a timely manner for you...as it should be for a purchasing customer.. I was simply conveying my so far, over-all disappointment with the communications...or lack there of...from the support staff regarding the advertised products.. as I indicated in my message.. I have the basic jetAudio player and jetCast...both of which I think are exceptional products... I just wish I could get some basic answers to the questions I've submitted here.. good luck....and apologies again if I imposed on your topic.. G. |
