Unhappy ogg playback issues on u2

As a proud new u2 2GB owner, I was concerned to see many (though not all) of my ogg files getting skipped during playback. I did some investigating, and found that ogginfo reported the following 'Vendor:' lines for various ogg files in my collection:

Vendor: Xiphophorus libVorbis I 20000508 (1.0 beta 1 or beta 2) won't play on u2
Vendor: Xiphophorus libVorbis I 20010225 (1.0 beta 4) won't play on u2
Vendor: Xiphophorus libVorbis I 20011231 (1.0 rc3)
Vendor: Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20020717 (1.0)
Vendor: Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20040629

The u2 will skip ogg files encoded using the first two encoders listed (my older files). Everything after 20011231 (1.0rc3) plays fine. This is using firmware v1.35e.

Questions:
Are there any firmware versions that will playback the ogg files encoded with the beta vorbis encoder? You can try files that failed for me here:

1.0 beta 1 or beta 2 ogg file
1.0 beta 4 ogg file

I wonder if it is a compatibility issue, or if there is simply a version string or something that the U2 firmware attempts to check which isn't matching.

Bill

Can't help you with that one, but can add another wrnkle to the pot - I bet you can't play anything ripped to Q=-1 OGG Vorbis (45kbps-ish) even with the latest Vorbis codec releases (at elast if you can I want to know why my G3 can't).

Hi Bill
Thanks for the info.
I have the G3 2GB with 1.30 firmware and it plays with no problems the latest aoTuV version which is Beta4.

You can download it from here.
http://www.geocities.jp/aoyoume/aotu...l_aoTuV_b4.zip

These are DLLs that you copy wherever you have applications that use this DLLs, replacing the old ones.

This seem to be one of the best Vorbis encoder so far.

You can check this test also, where it was even superior to AAC around 80Kbps.

Hope this help.
